The Haitian Christian Leaders Coalition (HCLC) formally submitted a comprehensive set of advocacy recommendations to Miami-Dade County officials and federal representatives this month, calling for humane and transparent immigration pathways for Haitian nationals and their families.
The recommendations, developed over several months of consultation with member churches and community leaders, address three core areas: the immediate need for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) renewals, access to legal representation for asylum seekers, and the establishment of community liaison offices to bridge the gap between Haitian families and government agencies.
“Immigration is not an abstract policy question for us,” said the HCLC leadership in their official statement. “These are our congregants, our neighbors, our children. We are calling for policies that treat every person with the dignity they deserve.”
HCLC will continue to monitor legislative developments and will organize community briefings to keep member churches informed of any policy changes. Members are encouraged to participate in upcoming advocacy workshops through the coalition’s civic engagement program.
